“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”
— Romans 10:9-10
At the Hampton Church of Christ we celebrate every time that someone Finds Jesus. When someone stands to make this commitment, we celebrate together and welcome them to our family
No matter what's happened in your past, you have a loving Father who is ready to accept you as His child. Just like the verses above say, if call out to Him , He'll receive you! We call that Grace, and it is something that God gives freely that we cannot earn. We just have to accept this free gift.
Salvation is a new beginning, not just a one-time event. An inside-out journey of reshaping your life that begins here and lasts for all eternity. When God made the world, He made it good and designed us to be in a close relationship with Him. Throughout the story of the Bible, humans have chosen sin and rebellion, which have separated us from God, but God continues to love us and invite us back into a new life, a relationship with Him.
After you've made your stand to say yes to Jesus as Lord, baptism is your next step. Baptism is a public celebration and proclamation of the change that God wants to make in your life. In baptism we participate in a picture of dying to our "flesh" and being buried like Christ was buried and raised in the likeness of His resurrection. Baptism is part of our journey in becoming more like Jesus. It doesn't solve all of our problems, or remove all of our old habits, but through baptism we become more like Jesus.
"We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his." -Romans 6:4-5
